Jordan Abbott is the senior data scientist at the Education Funding Equity Initiative at New America, where his work sits at the intersection of data science, education policy, sociology, and geography. He will begin a Ph.D. in Education Data Science at Stanford University in fall 2026. His research focuses on how municipal governance structures and policies shape spatial and educational inequities in communities, with a current emphasis on developing algorithmic redistricting models that examine the role of school district boundaries in shaping educational opportunity. Drawing on advanced spatial and computational methods, these models simulate alternative redistricting scenarios to explore how redrawing district lines could affect resource allocation and school integration.
He is also the co-creator of the Education, Community, and Housing Open (ECHO) Data Dashboard—a publicly accessible, interactive tool that surfaces the deep connections between public education, housing, and community welfare, designed to empower policymakers, advocates, and journalists to address these challenges holistically. That research is informed by his experience at the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), where he served as a liaison between the Board of Executive Directors and the Office of the Chief Economist, translating executive-level questions into targeted research and analysis. His work spanned public health, social protection, and education infrastructure—deepening his understanding of how the interconnected challenges of education, housing, and equity manifest at multiple scales, from local communities to hemispheric policy.
Jordan holds a Master of Science in Data Science and Policy from Johns Hopkins University, a Bachelor of Science in Economics and Statistics, and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, both from the University of Pittsburgh. His interdisciplinary training informs his commitment to ensuring that research insights reach beyond technical reports to resonate with policymakers, empower stakeholders, and amplify community voices.
